Rise in Teen Hearing Loss
A recent New York City Department of Health study found one in every four graduating high school seniors suffered from irreversible hearing loss.
The culprit? Loud music.
Eighteen-year-old Chris Specht says he loves music. He’s been an active listener for years and even plays trombone for his high school marching band.
But about two years ago, he started listening to a ringing in his ears that made him worry.
After a thorough exam, Specht was diagnosed with a moderate case of tinnitus — an issue his doctor says he sees more and more in young people every day.
